1st Mentoring Matters Event
The “Mentoring Matters” Event was filled with speaker after speaker who provided us with and an array of inspirational and motivational words of encouragement. Everyone left with a new perspective on the importance of volunteering and giving back by making a difference in someone elses life. Many signed up either to be volunteers, mentors, mentees, and to attend the retreat in the Riverhead Jail. The youth signed up to go on the YES Tour of the jail scheduled September 1, 2016.

The 13 Must-Ask Questions for Your Mentor by John Maxwell
Steven Spielberg, the genius behind movies like Jaws and E.T., once said, “The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image, but giving them the opportunity to create themselves.”
Jahnice Strange Shares Her Story
August 20, 2016
The disease of addiction and alcoholism remained silent in my early years, but due to unresolved issues and trauma.. Unknown to me at the time, alcoholism would take me on a journey that would ultimately take me to a place of chaos, confusion and confinement.
Helping Our Youth Understand Consequences and Make Informed Choices for Their Future
Connecting For Purpose took some of our youth and young adults on a educational tour of the Riverhead County jail.
We agree with Sherriff DeMarco and staff that a growing number of Suffolk County's youth are in danger of falling prey to criminal and gang activity. Young teens especially face peer pressures that often make them act in ways that help them become “accepted” by a group, but they have no idea about the consequences of their behavior. As a result, many young people at an early age begin what may become a painful life of criminal behavior.
The goal of the YES Program is to educate youth about the potential consequences of poor choices.
Motivational Empowerment Symposium
Connecting For Purpose will host a "One Day" Motivational and Empowerment Symposium at the Riverhead Suffolk County Jail . We believe in "Empowered Through Connection" and there is no better way than to empower individuals who are in the midst of understanding how to put the pieces of their lives back together.
