Philosophy and Mission

Connecting for Purpose is a  non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization whose mission is to provide multi-services designed to promote individual self-sufficiency.

Connecting for Purpose Peer Mentoring and Prevention services is an extension of our mentoring program. The peer mentoring and prevention services emanated  as a response to provide services to youth and families in crisis.

Our Connecting for Purpose Mentoring Program is dedicated to assisting adolescents and young adults with nurturing and encouraging mentoring opportunities to excel in personal, academic, and career oriented decisions through the use of cultural sensitive and strategic matching of mentees with mentors who are passionate and dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others.

It has been assumed that youth are  too challenging and incapable of learning and/or do not care about anything.

The truth of the matter is our youth do care and they want to and can learn. They long for adults who are willing to make the effort to understand them and who will provide them the acceptance and guidance they need.

If one is patient and looks hard and deep enough, they will understand the youth’s message is -

                                           “Don’t give up on me!”

  • Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) screening available

  • Bullying Prevention and Response Workshops

  • Gang Awareness, Prevention, and Intervention.

We acknowledge that it will require a united multi-systems approach coming together to address and meet the needs of youth at-risk.

Evidenced-Based Curriculum

Connecting for Purpose utilizes evidenced –based  curriculums.  The “ Positive Action “ (PA) program is one of the curriculums used designed to improve youth academics, behavior, and character.

  • PA uses an audience-centered, curriculum-based approach to increase positive behaviors and decrease negative ones.

  • PA is grounded in a broad theory of self-concept. It relies on intrinsic motivation for developing and maintaining positive behavioral patterns and teaches skills focused on learning and motivation for achieving success.

  • The premise - that you feel good about yourself when you do positive actions and there is always a positive way to do everything - is represented by the self-reinforcing “thoughts–actions - feelings” circle:
